Pana man charged with aggravated battery following incident at Vandalia restaurant involving police response

Jesse D. Blades, 47, of Pana, is facing two new Class 3 felony counts of Aggravated Battery after allegedly striking another person in the head with a glass bottle at a Vandalia restaurant, causing a laceration.

Both counts were filed in Fayette County Court, where Blades appeared with a public defender and was advised of the charges.

A separate 2025 case against Blades remains pending. At Tuesday’s hearing, the court also took up a petition to revoke Blades’ pre-trial release in that earlier case. The court found he had violated the conditions of his release and, citing his prior criminality and the danger he poses to the alleged victim and the community, determined that no conditions, or combination of conditions, could adequately mitigate the threat. His pre-trial release was revoked and he will remain in the Fayette County Jail.

Blades is next scheduled to appear with counsel on April 14 at 10:00 a.m.
