Aviators fall to Centerville, girls tie Stebbins

VANDALIA — Saturday afternoon brought with it sunshine and soccer.

Butler High School students spent a good portion of the day at Memorial Field, watching Butler Boys and Girls soccer take on tough opponents.

To start the day, Boys soccer took hosted the Centerville Elks.

The Aviators played toe to toe with the Elks, but ultimately lost the game 2-1. It was an evenly matched game in which two talented teams battled the entirety of the match.

“I’m proud of how hard my team fought,” said Captain Francisco Jimenez.

Coupled with a 3-2 win over Fairborn last week, the Aviators record evened out at 1-1-1 and remained 1-0 in the Greater Western Ohio North.

Butler traveled to Stebbins in a game that ended too late for this edition. The Aviators will play their next three contests at home. Thursday Butler will host Trotwood Madison at 7 p.m., Saturday they host Tecumseh at 12:45 p.m., and Tuesday, Sept. 5 they will host West Carrollton at 7 p.m.

Later on Saturday, the Lady Aviators took on Stebbins to bring the evening to a close.

The Lady Aviators ended the match tied 5-5, with each half an intense game until the last seconds.

“My team and I have been training very hard in order to compete at a high level,” said Captain Bri Fourman.

Coupled with a dominating 8-2 win over Fairborn on Wednesday, the Lady Aviator also evened their season record at 1-1-1 and they fell to 1-0-1 in the GWOC North.

The Butler girls will travel to West Carrollton on Saturday at 7 p.m. and then host Xenia on Wednesday, Sept. 6 at 7 p.m.
