HUBER HEIGHTS – The Butler Aviators enjoyed much success at the OHSAA Southwest District Track and Field meet held last Wednesday and Friday at Wayne High School.
The Butler girls’ team sent five individual athletes and one relay team to the Dayton Regional while four boys advanced in three individual events and one relay.
Leading the way for the Lady Aviators was Tyree Fletcher who captured first place in the long jump competition with a leap of 16 feet, 2.75 inches. Fletcher narrowly missed qualifying for Regional in the high jump where she placed fifth at 4-10. The top four placers in each event qualify for Regional.
The 4×400 relay team of Sydney Baker, Abbie Schoenherr, Olivia Schoenherr, and Alyssa Burley turned in perhaps one of the most surprising performances of the meet as they placed second in a time of 4:06.92 seconds to qualify for Regional.
The team came into finals with the fifth fastest time out of preliminaries, but shaved nearly 11 seconds off of Wednesday’s time to place second.
Also qualifying for Regional were Brooklyn Warren in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 16.12 seconds; Baker in the 400 meter dash in 1:01.86; and Abbie Schoenherr in the 1600 meter run.
