Butler cheerleaders to hold cheer camp

VANDALIA – Girls get ready to cheer! Learn the basics of cheerleading including cheers, jumps, basic tumbling and a dance routine at the Vandalia Recreation Center. The camp will be tought by the Butler High School Cheerleading team. This is a great way to get ready for try-outs or just have fun and build community spirit. The camp is for girls entering grades K-6. Fees are $30 for residents/VRC members, $40 for non residents. Camp is Monday – Wednesday, July 27-29 and Friday, July 31 from 9 a.m. to noon.

Recreation Center to hold soccer referee classes

VANDALIA – The Vandalia Recreation Center will hold soccer referee classes beginning on Sunday, August 2. Classes are mandatory for all ages refereed, and those interested must be 14 years old by August 22, 2015. Classes on Sunday, August 2 and August 9 are from 6 – 9 p.m. at the Vandalia Senior Center. Butler football golf scramble set for August 1

TIPP CITY – Preparations are under way for the third annual Vandalia-Butler Football Alumni (and Friends) Golf Scramble to be held at Cliffside Golf Course. The scramble will be held Saturday, August 1. Shotgun start will be at 1:30 with dinner immediately following the outing at AMVETS on Brown School Road. This will be a day for the alumni to play a round of golf, relax, and enjoy some food together after golf. Entry fee is $50 per person which includes greens fee, cart, beverages (water and soft drinks), and prizes. Organizers are seeking help to make this a great day for the alumni by making a donation for door prizes or by sponsoring a hole at the golf scramble. St. Chris 5K set for August 15

VANDALIA – St. Christopher Parish will hold its annual 5K race on Saturday, August 15 at the church at 435 E. National Road. The race will being at 8:30 a.m. with registration beginning at 7 a.m. All proceeds will help fund summer mission trips for the St. Chris Youth Ministry. Pre-registration by August 5 is $20 and guaranteed a t-shirt or $15 with no shirt. Race day fee is $20 with t-shirts available while extras are available. Teams of at least 10 racers can pre-register at $15 each with a t-shirt or $10 each with no shirt. Chamber of Commerce golf scramble is August 18

VANDALIA – The Vandalia- The Vandalia-Butler Chamber of Commerce invites you to participate in our 22nd annual Chamber golf outing on Tuesday, August 18 at Cassel Hills Golf Course. Registration is from 8 – 8:45 with a shot gun start at 9 a.m. Lunch will be served at the conclusion of the scramble. The cost is $80 which includes half a cart, greens fees, breakfast, and lunch. Non-golfers can purchase lunch for $25. Proceeds from this event help to support programs offered to the members of the Chamber. These programs help you and other member businesses stay on top of the ever- businesses stay on top of the ever-changing changing business environment and political activities that challenge all businesses, large or small.

Trot for the Brats set for September 12

VANDALIA — The Vandalia-Butler Optimist Club will host its annual Trot for the Brats 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, September 12 in coordination with the Vandalia Sister Cities Oktboberfest. Participants will receive free admission to the Oktoberfest as well as a coupon for a free bratwurst. Registration info can be found at

The 5K Run/Walk is sponsored by the Vandalia-Butler Optimist Club and the proceeds from this event will directly benefit the youth of the Vandalia City & Butler Township community. For 40 years, the Vandalia-Butler Optimist Club has focused their time, money, energy and resources into the kids of our community and proudly embrace our slogan, “Friend of Youth.”

Our professionally certified 5K (3.1 mile) course is very flat and should offer most avid runners a great opportunity to push for their best 5K time. Professional electronic chip timing for all participants as well as mile splits will be provided during the event. Walkers (and dogs!) and families are welcome! This is a race and a family event all in one package.
