VANDALIA – The Vandalia Freedom Run and Bike Tour have become established traditions in Vandalia-Butler, and the 2015 edition was once again a huge success.
150 runners and walkers and over 700 bicyclists, which organizers called “unprecedented,” took part in the annual celebration of our nation’s independence.
Overall winners in the 5K race were Jasmine Redman of New Carlisle who lead all ladies in a time of 19:29.6. The men’s overall winner was Quinn Williamson of Brookville in a time of 17:18.2.

The Freedom Run and Bike Tours are sponsored by the Vandalia-Butler Optimist Club, and serve as fundraisers to generate needed revenue to support youth programs in the Vandalia-Butler community. For 40 years the Optimist Club has focused their time, money, energy and resources into the kids of the community and proudly embrace the slogan, “Friend of Youth.”
The 50K and 100K Bike Tours take riders through some of the most picturesque areas of the Northern Miami Valley.
The events are sponsored by Corporate Sponsor Steven Reed State Farm Insurance Agency (run) and Digital Cowboy IT Services (bike tour). Other support sponsors are the City of Vandalia Parks & Recreation, Joseph Airport Toyota – Scion, Monroe Federal S&L, PC Paula, LLC, and the Visions Endowment Fund.
Refreshments were provided by McDonald’s of Vandalia and Butler Township.
The Vandalia-Butler Optimist Club will host its annual Trot for the Brats 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, September 12 in coordination with the Vandalia Sister Cities Oktboberfest. Participants will receive free admission to the Oktoberfest as well as a coupon for a free bratwurst. Registration details will be released soon.
