FAIRBORN — The Butler High School swim team had solid performances at the 2015 Butler Invitational at Wright State University Saturday, Dec. 19 earning the boys a fourth place finish and the girls fifth.
Milford was the top boys’ team, followed by Bellbrook, Northmont and Butler. On the girls’ side, Fairmont placed first, followed by Versailles, Oxford Talawanda and Milford.
Senior Tommy Cope had two first places finishes in individual events, winning the 200 meter freestyle in 1:41.61 and the 100 meter breaststroke in 1:00.44. Cope also joined Ryan Conley, Brendan Shanahan and Ian Barrett on the 200 meter freestyle relay team which placed second with a time of 1:37.19. Shanahan, Daveed Abrams, Cope and Barrett also combined to place second in the 200 meter medley relay with a time of 1:46.54.

Top 10 boys’ relay finishes included: 9th Burke, Leonardi, Chrissis, Payton 200 meter freestyle relay 1:56.83, 7th Barrett, Zebney, G. Harsch, Abrams 400 meter freestyle relay 3:56.09.
For the girls, junior Elaine Dean placed third in the 100 meter backstroke with a time of 1:07.64 and fifth in the highly competitive 50 meter freestyle event with a :27.42. Dean, Rachel Shively, Molly Hetzer and Grace Cope formed the 400 meter freestyle relay team that placed fifth with a time of 4:15.73. The 200 meter freestyle relay team of Sydney Baker, Abbey Burton, Cope and Reilly Harrington placed third with a time of 1:50.59.

The teams are back at it Jan. 2, competing in the Sidney Invitational.
