VANDALIA — She may have come to tennis late in her high school career, but senior Leigh Harden has made the most of her two years on the Butler High School team.
“Leigh is a great leader. She always has a positive attitude and the team seems to follow her lead without question,” Coach Amanda Paul said.
Harden agrees she has taken on a leadership role.
“I’m kind of like the team mom. I try to keep a positive attitude, set an example for the younger players and make sure everyone knows what is going on,” Harden said.
Playing both singles and doubles, Harden has earned key victories for the team and stands at 13-2 for the season. Coach Paul says it’s Harden’s determination that makes her a quality player.
“She runs down every ball and gives every single point all she has. She has been referred to as a backboard, because she gets every ball back,” Paul said.
Harden excels in the classroom too, maintaining a 4.4 grade point average. She plans to major in engineering. Ohio State University is her top college choice.
The girls’ sectional tournament continues Saturday, Oct. 3.
