GREENVILLE — The Butler boys and girls cross country teams traveled to Greenville on Saturday to participate in the Treaty City Invitational. The Butler boys cross country team placed fourth out of nine teams while the Lady Aviators placed seventh place out of seven teams.
Leading the boys was Long Fa Lin who placed eighth overall in a time of 18:02 followed by Caleb Colon (10th, 18:15), Kyle Wertz (11th, 18:17), Gabe Warren (24th, 19:01), Sean Luttrell (40th, 19:46), Nick Luttrell (54th, 20:58), and Mitchell Heeter (55th, 21:03).
“Our top three did a great job of running together with only 15 seconds separated our top three,” said Butler head coach Andy White. “We are still struggling with getting our fifth runner closer to our front pack, but the gap is improving. I thought we ran better this week as a team. It was a hot steamy day which was tough on the runners.”
The Lady Aviators didn’t fare so well as they placed in last position.
Leading Butler was Olivia Schoenherr who was 13th in 21:54, Abby Schoenherr (41st, 23:43), Michell Valdivia (44th, 26:16), Sydney Baker (45th, 26:57), Nicole Weiss (46th, 28:41) and Natalie Mauer (47th, 29:05.
“It was a tough day for the girls,” said White. “We did not have one of our best performances. We need to get a little tougher and run a little uncomfortable.”
The Aviators will travel to Tiffin this Saturday, Sept. 12 for the Tiffin Cross Country Carnival.
