MASON — The Butler Aviators traveled to Mason on Friday to face a strong field at the Moeller Primetime Invitational. Butler placed 13th out of 26 teams competing.
Butler’s Kyle Wertz (43rd) led the Aviators with a time of 17:23 followed by Long-fa Lin (51, 17:30), Gabe Warren (105, 18:21), Caleb Colon (113, 18:28), Sean Luttrell (163, 19:26), Nick Luttrell (201, 20:33) and Mitchell Heeter (214, 21:07).
“The boys ran well for the first meet of the season,” said Butler cross country coach Andy White. “Kyle, Long-fa, Gabe, Sean, and Nick all ran personal best times. We are a young team, only having one senior in our top seven, so I thought we competed well. We need to close our time gaps down between our top five runners. I believe we will be able to pack it in together as the season progresses. We have a lot of potential on this team.”
The Lady Aviators traveled to Milton Union to run in the Bob-Schul Invitational where they placed 14th out of 29 teams.
Leading the way for Butler was Olivia Schoenherr who placed 51st overall in 21:49, Abby Schoenherr (106, 23:34), Nicole Weiss (158, 25:12), Sydney Baker (160, 25:17), Katie Hickle (194, 26:12), Michelle Valdivia (207, 26:39), and Jessica Sacks (229, 27:25).
“It was a good start to the season for the girls team,” said White. “The girls gave good efforts. Their results were an indication of summer and early season training. With continued training the girls will see big improvements with their times as the season progresses. Olivia had a solid time for the 1st meet of the season.”
The Butler Cross Country teams will Travel to Lost Creek Reserve in Troy for a 2-mile race on Tuesday which ended too late for this edition. They will then travel to Greenville on Saturday, Sept. 5.
