Lions sponsor Peace Poster contest

VANDALIA – St. Christopher sixth graders, supervised by Art Teacher Mr. Terry Rasor, recently participated in the Annual Peace Poster Contest sponsored by Lions Clubs International. This is the 29th year for the contest and the 12th for St. Christopher.

The objective is to emphasize to youngsters the importance of world peace and to provide an opportunity for them to express themselves artistically. This years Theme is ” A Celebration of Peace.”

Entries were judged on originality, artistic merit, and expression of the Peace Theme. Each student also provided a statement on Peace.

Kailey Smith won Vandalia’s contest and was awarded $25.00 by the Vandalia Lions Club. Her poster was then sent on to the District for judging at that level. Thirteen Clubs in the District participated and Kailey’s Poster won again.

On Friday June 2 , during an assembly at St. Christopher School, Lion Youth Activities Chairman “Bud” Brown presented the District Award including a plaque and $50. Although Kailey didn’t win at the State level, congratulations are in order for a job well done!
