VANDALIA — Vandalia police are investigating a domestic violence case that led to a stabbing and significant injuries to both parties.
The incident occurred Tuesday evening at the Super 8 on National Road.
Vandalia Police Sergeant Todd Flynn said both parties to the incident were transported for medical care.
The clerk at the Super 8 called the incident into police after the woman came to the lobby saying she needed help getting her things out of the room. The woman fled on foot and was later found at the KFC restaurant on National Road.
“She came out to me and had cuts and gooseggs all over her,” said Flynn. “She said her boyfriend had been beating her all night and hit her over the head with a whiskey bottle.”
Flynn said police went to the room to make an arrest and when the man came out he had significant amounts of blood on him and was in need of immediate medical attention.
“He said he had been stabbed,” Flynn said. “We called medics for him and he is undergoing surgery at the hospital. No further information is available about the condition of either party.
Police believe the woman is from Kentucky and the man is an Indian citizen in the United States on a work visa. Neither have been identified.
Flynn said that police were seeking a search warrant to search the room. Police have not determined who the primary aggressor was in the incident.
“I don’t think either of them are cooperating at the hospital, I’m not sure where its going to go,” he said.
