VANDALIA — Vandalia Drummer News Editor Darrell Wacker has been promoted to the role of General Manager of the company’s Times Community Newspapers Division, which includes the Huber Heights Courier, Vandalia Drummer News and The Englewood Independent.
In this new role, Wacker will oversee the general operations of the division and lead the editorial and advertising teams.
“We are excited to have Darrell assume these new responsibilities,” said Joshua Byers, Group Publisher of the Miami Valley Group. “During his time in Vandalia he has become very connected with the business community and we look forward to that extending into Huber Heights and Englewood as we look to grow our presence.”
Wacker said he was excited to take the next step in his career.
“Developing relationships has been a big part of my success in Vandalia and I am looking forward to extending those relationships across the northern suburbs,” he said. “By working with businesses, I believe we offer a great avenue for them to communicate with their customers and grow. When that happens, we both prosper.”
Wacker will continue news coverage for Vandalia, Butler Township, and Huber Heights.
“Darrell has a nose for news, and that won’t change,” said Byers.
“From local politics to high school sports, I’ve enjoyed telling the stories of the communities I cover,” said Wacker. “I believe community newspapers that focus solely on local news and events have a bright future.”
Wacker has served as the Managing Editor for the publications since 2013 and Editor of the Vandalia Drummer News since 2012 as well as the Huber Heights Courier since 2015.
Wacker began his career with Civitas Media’s predecessor Brown Publishing as a sports writer in 2005.
