VANDALIA – The Vandalia Farmers Market is looking forward to the predicted dry and sunny weather for this week’s Market on Friday, July 17 from 3 – 7 p.m. in Seger Park. Entertainment this week is “A Sweet Sound.” They are a husband and wife duo that perform soulful southern rock and Celtic music. They performed at the market last year and received lots of positive comments from the crowd. Food trucks scheduled to be at the market this week: Green-go Loco, Rib-N-It BBQ, Tin Roof Mobile, Wheel be Roastin’, Keiko’s Kettle Corn, and TJ’s Ice Cream. For those of you that have been patiently waiting, sweet corn is available at the market!
Historical Society to hold open houses in July
VANDALIA — The Historical Society of Vandalia-Butler, located at 336 East Alkaline Springs Road, Vandalia, will have an Open House event on Sunday, July 19 from 1-3 p.m. In addition, our Spring House is open every Saturday from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. and Sunday from 12:30-3 p.m. for our Alkaline Springs water, just bring your own containers (donations accepted). Tops in Blue to hold free concert at Nutter Center
FAIRBORN — The U.S. Air Force’s Tops in Blue is performing a free night of family entertainment in the Ervin J. Nutter Center at Wright State University on Tuesday, August 11 at 7 p.m. This year, the team continues its long-standing tradition of “family entertaining family” and will showcase the music of well-known country and pop music artists. “Tops in Blue is the Air Force’s premier entertainment showcase,” said Tom Edwards, show producer and chief of Air Force Entertainment. “The new 2015 team is a reflection of the ‘best of the best’ performers throughout the Air Force.” Additional information can be found on their website at www.topsinblue.com.
Golf Scramble to benefit 4 Paws for Ability
VANDALIA – 4 Paws for Ability, Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit agency that places service dogs for children and veterans around the globe, is pleased to announce that the company, Elements IV Interiors, has chosen 4 Paws to receive proceeds from its Charity Golf Scramble on Saturday, July 18, 2015, at Cassel Hills Golf Course, 201 Clubhouse Way, Vandalia, Ohio. The other charity that will receive proceeds is Partners for Community Living.
There is still time to sign-up for the golf outing. The $75/person, $300/team cost (if signing up before July 10) includes golf, cart, two drink tickets, and a steak dinner. The cost is $85 after July 10. There will be prizes, awards, and the opportunity to meet a dog from 4 Paws. Shotgun start is at 1:30 p.m.

Senior Center to host RSVP of Montgomery and Greene County
VANDALIA – RSVP is a division of the Senior Corps program. This program has been around for over forty years. There are over 500,000 volunteers across the nation working in partner service organizations . Come to this presentation on Tuesday, August 4, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Vandalia Senior Center and learn about volunteer opportunities for adults 55 and “better.” You can also stay and help make cards to go in children’s backpacks. Senior Center to host My Care Program for Medicare and Medicaid Participants
VANDALIA – The Ombudsman Office is giving a twenty minute presentation about the My Care program on Friday, August 25, from 1:30 to 2:00 p.m. at the Vandalia Senior Center. They will explain the programs to those who have not joined and answer questions for those who are already in the program. There will be literature about the My Care program also. Air Force Museum Family Day: Newton in Space
WPAFB – Commemorate the anniversaries of several milestone space explorations during Family Day from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on Saturday, July 18 at the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force. Two anniversaries took place on the moon: the first humans landed on the moon with Apollo 11 on July 20, 1969, and Apollo 15 – with an all Air Force crew – landed on the moon on July 30, 1971. Brookville 5K Picnic Run set for July 25
BROOKVILLE – Runners and walkers are invited to participate in the 25th annual Brookville 5K Picnic Run, which will be held on Saturday, July 25 at Golden Gate Park in Brookville. This new 5K course will take runners/walkers over a country road and city streets. The event begins at 8 a.m. from Golden Gate Park. Pre-registration is available at www.alliancerunning.com. You can pick up a registration form at the Brookville Chamber of Commerce. The entry fee is $25 with a T-shirt, if postmarked by July 15. Participants may also register on race day for $25, without guarantee of T-shirt. Proceeds from this event benefit the Brookville Band music program. Kiser High School Heritage Day Festival slated
HUBER HEIGHTS — The Kiser High School Alumni’s annual Heritage Day Festival fish fry will be held July 18 at the Elks Lodge #58, 2801 Troy Pike beginning at 5 p.m. The cost is $12 in advance, $15 at the door. There will also be a $500 raffle drawing and other raffles and games. All proceeds benefit the Kiser High School Scholarship. Honorees this year are band members, cheerleaders, majorettes, and Pantherettes. A limited number of tickets will be sold.
