VANDALIA — The Holiday spirit was on full display Sunday evening at the Vandalia Recreation Center as hundreds gathered for the annual Christmas Tree lighting ceremony.
This year’s tree was donated by Casey and Steven Maxton who live on Van Arden Drive in Vandalia.
Vandalia Mayor Arlene Setzer was joined by Morton Middle School student Elize Ruiz to officially flip the switch that lit the tree.
Laura Moore sang a stirring rendition of the Christmas carol “O Holy Night.” Laura was the overall winner of the 2015 Vandalia’s Got Talent competition. Vandalia’s Got Talent finalist Alexis Roberts sang “Let It Snow,” at the 2015 Vandalia Christmas Tree Lighting event. Another contestant, Isaac Lucas, played guitar and sang Run, Run Rudolph.
The Morton Middle School choir led the community as it sang Silent Night by candlelight.
During the event, hot chocolate and and cookies were available. Children were also able to visit with Santa while the Morton Middle School handbell choir performed in the gymnasium.
