Spooky Sleep Over

VANDALIA — Kids will enjoy crafts, games, a movie, food, and hair-raising fun at the Vandalia Recreation Center’s annual Spooky Sleep Over on Friday, Oct. 23. The sleep over is for children ages 7-12. Kids can dress in their best Halloween attire. The sleep over begins Friday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m and ends Saturday morning at 8 a.m. Fees are $25 for resident/member, $30 for non-residents.

Aullwood’s Enchanted Forest

BUTLER TOWNSHIP — Friday, October 23 and Saturday, October 24 from 5:30 – 8:00 pm guests may explore Aullwood’s Enchanted Forest at Aullwood Farm located at 9101 Frederick Pike in Dayton. Bring family and friends for plenty of fun. This non-scary event is fun for the entire family! Enjoy the fall season with a beautiful hike along a luminary-lit trail. Make s’mores, toast marshmallows or roast a hot dog! Meet Aullwood’s farm animals, get your face painted, or even purchase a charming animal mask. Chris Rowlands will enthrall guests with a fast-paced program featuring his famous puppet characters and a sing-a-long! Guests may pick their trail time to visit the Enchanted Forest on a first-come, first-served basis. FREE gift to the first 50 families each evening!

WPAFB to hold “Pumpkin Chuck” for charity

WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio – The 11th annual “Pumpkin Chuck” will take place here, Oct. 16 to raise money for the Combined Federal Campaign.

The base-wide event is open to the public and will feature a pumpkin throwing competition as well as a pumpkin pie baking and pie eating contest. Refreshments will be available for purchase from food truck vendors. CFC will receive a portion of these proceeds as well. The event will be located at the airstrip adjacent to the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force. The public and media can enter through the Spinning Road Gate, located at the Spinning Road and Airway Road intersection, in Area B.

Jumping Beans Jumping Sprouts

VANDALIA — Youngsters accompanied by a special adult will enjoy movement, rhythm, and fun on Wednesdays from 9:45-10:30 a.m. at the Vandalia Recreation Center. Class runs through December 9. With the utilization of songs, guided locomotion, finger plays, dancing, and parachute time, your youngster will enhance language and communication skills, social and cognitive development, and motor coordination. Come and join the fun! Ages: 18 – 36 months. Cost $30 Vandalia resident/VRC member, $38 non-resident.

Jumping Sprouts

VANDALIA — Preschoolers, assisted by a special adult, will enjoy singing, dancing, tumbling, movement, and rhythm on Wednesdays from 10:45-11:30 a.m. at the Vandalia Recreation Center. Class runs through December 9. Parachute time and free play will extend the fun. Watch your jumping beans sprout into active preschoolers. Ages: 30 – 48 months. Cost $30 Vandalia resident/VRC member, $38 non-resident.

Free wall climbing night

VANDALIA — The Vandalia Recreation Center offers an evening to try scaling the impressive three-story climbing wall for FREE! Your paid admission includes two hours of the climbing wall at no additional cost. The next free wall-climbing night is Tuesday, October 20 from 6 – 8 p.m. Call 415-2430 for more information.

Scissors, Snack, and Story

VANDALIA — This program on Fridays from 10 – 11 a.m. at the Vandalia Recreation Center is designed for you and your child to get to know one another and make new friends while having fun. Your child will experience gross motor movements, fine motor movements and social skills. Each class will feature a themed craft, story and activity. Drop-in for Zoom Around the Room and save $2 on Scissors, Snack and Story registration. Ages: 5 & younger (Children must be accompanied by an adult). Fee: $6 Resident / VRC Member; $8 Non-Resident; each additional child is $4. Location: Vandalia Recreation Center special events room.

Kiser High School Almuni Meetings

HUBER HEIGHTS — Kiser High School alumni meetings are held on the fourth Wednesday of each month (except November and December) at the American Legion Post 200 which is at 5046 Nebraska Avenue, Huber Heights. Meetings begin at 7 p.m. Graduates, attendees, and friends of Kiser High School ae welcome to attend. Please park at the rear of the building and use rear entrance.

Brunner Literacy Center Sponsors Third Annual 5K Run/Walk

DAYTON — The Brunner Literacy Center, a welcoming space for adults to reach educational dreams, is sponsoring its third annual 5K Run/Walk and optional 1.7K Fun Run/Walk on Saturday, Oct. 31, 2015 at 10:00 am in Englewood Metropark (Main Street and National Road Entrance). The race proceeds benefit the Brunner Literacy Center which is solely funded by donations and grants.

Located at 4825 Salem Ave., and with the help of over 150 caring volunteers, the Brunner Literacy Center offers one-on-one tutoring at no cost to the clients. These adult students may be interested in improving reading and math skills, preparing for the General Equivalency Diploma (GED), practicing English Language skills or preparing for the test of citizenship. Northmont Class of 1975 to hold reunion

ENGLEWOOD — The Northmont Class of 1975 will hold a reunion on October 8, 2015 at Boston’s Bistro from 8 p.m. to midnight with a 70’s Alumni meet and greet. Vandalia Lions Club meets twice monthly

VANDALIA — The Vandalia Lions Club holds dinner meetings on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month at the Cassel Hills Golf Clubhouse at 6:30 p.m. The club does not hold dinner meetings in July or August. Programs include speakers covering topical subjects. VANDALIA – Sister Cities of Vandalia meets the second Wednesday of each month at the Senior Citizen’s Center on Tionda Dr. at 7 p.m. followed by a Gemuetlichkeit (social) hour.

VANDALIA — MOPS and MOMS Next meetings offer community and mothering support to mothers of children age birth through six. MOPS and MOMS Next meetings are held at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Vandalia (122 W. National Rd. in Vandalia next to Rite Aid) on the second and fourth Thursday evenings of each month from 6 – 8:15 p.m. Childcare is provided (please RSVP prior to attending to ensure enough childcare workers are available).
