VANDALIA — Paintings by Kevin and Carol McNeeley are on display at the Vandalia Municipal Building Art Gallery through September 30. The exhibit is free and open to the public Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Kevin and Carol McNeeley are a married couple and artists from Waynesville, Ohio. After graduating with a Master’s Degree at Bowling Green State College (1987), Kevin became a full-time instructor at Sinclair Community College (2001) and teaches in the tooling and machining department. Kevin was a high school and college athlete who enjoys learning and mastering new skills. He enjoys woodworking, jogging, biking and coaching the three boys in several sports.
Carol graduated from the College of Mount St. Joseph (1989) and worked in the fields of art and education for about 8 years before deciding to stay home to raise the couple’s three boys. She is now also a part-time caregiver of her disabled mother. Although Carol started doing art work in high school and college, she gave it up temporarily with the demands of motherhood. She also enjoys gardening and walking her 2 Sheltie dogs.
In 2006, Kevin and Carol began taking art classes at Sinclair Community College. They started exhibiting and selling their work in 2010. Both Kevin and Carol do oil painting and drawing en plein air and from the figure.
Carol’s work is organic and figurative. Her paintings often convey a narrative and provide an emotional experience to the viewer. Her subject matter is from nature and often includes some imaginary elements.
Kevin’s best work includes some architectural elements and tend to be highly dramatic. His pieces often include some form of mixed media. Kevin enjoys studying the work of artists from a past era and is greatly influenced by his favorites, Van Gogh, and the German expressionists.
Kevin and Carol have found a common bond in the creation and presentation of their works. They use their individual strengths to support and encourage each other and to become members of our local art community.
