VANDALIA — The Vandalia Butler Chamber of Commerce has opened up nominations for its annual Honor Awards Banquet, scheduled for Tuesday, February 19, 2019. Nominations are now open for the 2018 Marvin Link Distinguished Service Award, along with all business and professional awards.

“It is important to recognize the excellence in our area, from our devoted citizens and businesses for all they do for in the community throughout the year, and what better way is there to be recognized than by your community and peers,” said Chamber President/CEO Will Roberts

The annual award presentation began in 2017 through a program titled by the Chamber as the Honor Awards.

“Once the Presidents Club dissolved, it was important for one of our local organization to step up and fill the void. It seemed to be a natural progression for the Chamber to accept the responsibility, maintaining the history of the DSA and building on a recognition event for our businesses,” said Roberts. “I feel it is important to recognize not only our selected recipients, but also each nominee under each award category.”

Those categories are the Marvin Link Distinguished Service Award, Ambassador, Non-Profit Organization, Professional, Small Business and Business of the Year. According to Roberts nominations are open to all area businesses and business persons, not just those that are members of the Vandalia Butler Chamber of Commerce.

“We do not discredit any nominations,” he said. “All are deserving of the opportunity to be recognized and potentially receive an award.”

Roberts admits that he is relieved to not personally have to make the decision for those who are eventually chosen to receive an award.

“It comes down to a committee decision. We have a lot of great businesses and individuals in our community, it would be very difficult to choose just one.”

The task of choosing falls into the hands of the Chamber Ambassadors and a small grouping of previously awarded DSA winners.

If interested in nominating an individual or business, you may contact the Chamber office between the hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday at (937) 898 – 5351, or by visiting the chamber’s website www.vandaliabutlerchamber.org, printing off, completing and mailing in a nomination form. All nominations are required to be submitted by no later than Friday, January 11, 2019 in order to be considered.

Tickets are also available for anyone who is interested in attending the event. The banquet is catered by Creatif Catering and held at Celebrations II Banquet Center on Poe Ave, with a happy hour including hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar beginning at 5:00pm, a red carpet presentation of the nominees at 6 p.m. followed immediately by dinner and the awards presentations.
