VANDALIA — The Vandalia Division of Police responded to 1,360 calls for service in July, 1,053 which were citizen initiated and 307 which were officer initiated. The department received 199 calls to 911.
The top reasons for calls were misdemeanor theft (19), felony theft (15), and domestic violence (8).
Compared to 2014, there has been a significant increase in felony theft complaints. In 2015 there have been 72 complaints for felony theft compared to just 51 at this point in 2014, a 41% increase.
Vandalia police officers made a total of 51 arrests in July, 37 for misdemeanors, eight juvenile, and six felony arrests.
Police made 398 traffic stops in July and issued citations in 57 stops, written warnings in 273, verbal warnings in 53, and other dispositions in 15. Officers have issued 2,104 written traffic warnings in 2015, a 23% increase over a year ago.
During the stops that resulted in citations and/or arrests, seven were for OVI, 29 were for speeding, two were parking violations, and 89 were not categorized on the report.
Police responded to 26 vehicular accidents, 18 that had property damage and eight resulted in injuries. Traffic accidents with injuries are up 73% in 2015 compared to last year.
Police also responded to 98 alarms in July, 77 business alarms and 21 residential alarms.
