Police: Use caution when accepting cash

Vandalia Crime Prevention Officer Douglas Nagel urged businesses to use caution when accepting cash due to recent counterfeit bills being passed locally.

VANDALIA – Vandalia police are urging businesses and individuals to use extreme caution when accepting cash for transactions.

Police are investigating the passing of three counterfeit bills passed in recent days that were received by two businesses in Vandalia.

Crime Prevention Officer Douglas Nagel sent an email alert on Friday afternoon.

“Check all currency closely and use your authentication markers if you have them,” Nagel wrote. “If someone passes a bill and you believe it to be counterfeit, contact the police department immediately at 937-898-5868.”
