DAYTON –A Wisconsin man was indicted today in the rape of an 8-year old girl at a Butler Township hotel.
Montgomery County Prosecuting Attorney Mat Heck, Jr. announced that Robert Maranger, 48, of Stoughton, Wisconsin, has been indicted for sexual assault.
On Friday, August 7, 2015, the defendant, his girlfriend, and her 8‐year‐old daughter were staying at the Quality Inn on Maxton Road in Butler Township. An employee of the inn saw the defendant on video surveillance sexually assaulting the 8‐year‐old victim in the indoor pool and fitness areas.
The Butler Township police were called and arrested the defendant.
The defendant has two prior convictions in Wisconsin for sex offenses and is a lifetime sex offender registrant.
Today, the defendant was indicted on:
- One count of Rape of a child under 10 years of age
- Seven counts of Gross Sexual Imposition of a child under 13 years of age
All of the counts have Sexually Violent Predator Specifications. Rape of a child under 10 carries a possible sentence of 15 years‐to‐life. The sexually violent predator specification increases that to life without eligibility of parole.
The defendant will be arraigned on August 20, 2015 at 8:30 am. He is currently in custody in the Montgomery County Jail, being held on a $2,000,000 bond.
“The actions of this convicted sex offender are despicable,” said Heck. “I commend the employee of the Quality Inn for immediately notifying the police about this sexual assault. Citizen involvement is crucial in assisting law enforcement’s efforts.”
