VANDALIA — Vandalia-Butler Food Pantry organizers are thrilled with the generosity demonstrated by the community during the annual Fall Food Drive.
Volunteers report that 20,816 food items were collected along with cash donations of $2,763. There were 6,065 bags distributed to homes and volunteers worked almost 280 hours on Sunday collecting and sorting the food.
“This has been a truly amazing food drive,” said Julie Staats, Food Drive Coordinator. “We have set a new record for food collected. I cannot express how appreciative I am for all your support in this community initiative – truly a collaborative event.”
“Vandalia and Butler Township are two of the most giving communities in Montgomery County,” said Food Pantry Director Kathy Garver. “We are so blessed to live here and so are the families that receive all of this.”
Garver said that the pantry serves around 130-150 families a month.
“I don’t know what else to say to the community but thank you,” she said. “We are blessed.”
