Butler Basketball seeks players for alumni games

VANDALIA — Alumni of the Vandalia-Butler Boys Varsity Basketball Program are planning inaugural alumni basketball games to be held on the evening of June 25, 2016 at the Student Activity Center. We are requesting all Varsity alumni interested in attending and/or playing RSVP to Connie Korber (937.415.6384 or connie.korber@vbcsd.com) by June 24, 2016. The cost is $25 per player (tax-deductible), all proceeds will go to the boys basketball program, and please send Connie Korber cash or check (600 S. Dixie Dr., Vandalia, OH 45377 made out to Butler Athletic Boosters).

Additionally, the families and friends of current and former players along with the entire Vandalia-Butler community are all welcome to watch the evening games. The spectator entry fee is one or more canned food items per person so we can donate as much as possible to the Vandalia Food Bank. More details about the exact evening’s schedule will be released in the coming weeks. Lastly, we are excited that former VB coaches will be helping coach the teams.

Western Ohio Basketball Camp offered

WEST MILTON — The only 5 day, full day Basketball Camp in Western Ohio will be held June 27 – July 1 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Milton-Union High School for boys entering the third through ninth grades in the fall. Each player gets a basketball and camp T-shirt. Trophies will be awarded for 5 on 5 Champions, 3 on 3 Champions, Free Throw and Hot Shot Champions for each grade, and Camp All-Stars. Soccer registration begins

VANDALIA — The Vandalia Parks and Recreation Department offers leagues available for ages 3-17 years old. Teams are drawn in July and practice will begin in August. Participants are notified of team placement by the end of July. The first games are scheduled for late August and the last games are scheduled for October.

All inclusive fee includes: Team Treats, Concession Buyout, Fundraiser Buyout and NYSCA Certification

Registration Information

-Save $10 by registering on-line at www.vandaliareccenter.com. Online registration runs April 20 – July 1 (After July 1 walk-in registration is available until leagues are full). Utilize coupon code SOCCER at checkout.

-Save $5 on walk-in registration at the VRC before June 13. After June 13 there will be No discounts for walk-in registration.

Soccer Referee Information

VANDALIA — Looking to earn some money for the summer and fall? Soccer referee may be the job for you! All classes are mandatory and will be held at the Vandalia Senior Center. No fee is required to obtain certification. A referee shirt, shorts and socks are provided. If you would like further information please contact Dave Posma at 657-3838. Must be 14 years old by August 20.

Senior Volleyball

VANDALIA — Stay active while having fun in this non-competitive program! No experience required. Ages 55 and older. The cost is FREE for Vandalia Recreation Center members, $15 for Resident, and $20 for non-resident. This program runs on Tuesdays beginning May 24 through July 26 from 2:00-3:30p.

Seniors Pickleball

VANDALIA — Come join the fun and get a good cardio work out while playing indoors on our new Pickleball courts! For participants age 55 and older. The cost is FREE for members and $3 for drop in. This program will run on Monday and Wednesdays from 11:30a-1:30p.

Wittenberg University to host boys basketball camp

SPRINGFIELD — Wittenberg University will host a series of basketball camps this summer:

  • Shooting, guard, and big man position camp June 22-24 for boys entering grades 7-12
  • Comprehensive skills camps July 10-13 and July 24-27 for boys entering grades 4-12

The emphasis of the camp is on fundamental basketball skill instruction and concepts of team play. Passing, dribbling, shooting, individual offense and defense, and rebounding are primary instruction areas.

All camp activities are conducted in the Health, Physical Education and Recreation (HPER) Center on the Wittenberg campus. The HPER Center includes five full courts and 22 basket areas. The main instruction area is in an AIR-CONDITIONED gym. Campers also will have access to an Olympic size swimming pool.

Firestine Residence Hall is also AIR-CONDITIONED. It is located just 100 yards from the HPER Center and 150 yards from the Dining Hall. Camp coaches reside on the same floors as the campers and provide meal break and evening supervision in the dormitory. Roommate assignments are made according to camp registration form requests.

Campers who do not specify a roommate will be paired with a camper of comparable age.
