VANDALIA — The Butler volleyball team swept Stebbins on Wednesday night in the opening round of the OHSAA sectional tournament. Butler defeated the Lady Indians 25-10, 25-15, and 25-21.
With the win the Aviators improved to 13-10 overall.
Season ends versus Centerville
Butler ended its season on Saturday with a three set loss to Centerville 18-25, 15-25, 19-25.
The loss capped a season which saw the Aviators start out 0-5, undergo a coaching change, and rebound to a 13-11 record.
“I’m so proud of the girls for not only this match, but also for the season as a whole,” said coach Caitlin Shumaker. Butler was 13-6 under Shumaker.
“We played with energy, intensity, and heart,” Shumaker said. “It was evident to all that we really wanted to win today. Although we didn’t get the victory, we competed well against a top-ranking team in the state, even leading two of the sets at one time. With all the challenges this team faced with a rough start of 0-5, a coach resigning, and a new coach taking over and changing a lot, they carried on with grace and determination. We finished well, and I’m extremely grateful for the time I’ve had with these girls.”
