VANDALIA — The following activities are scheduled at the Vandalia Recreation Center:

Lifeguard training

This American Red Cross course will teach participants all the required skills to become a lifeguard. You must pass the Lifeguard Pre-Screen Swim Evaluation that is offered on Monday, November 13 or Monday, November 20 at 7:30pm. This is for ages 15 and older and the cost is $200 Resident / VRC Member; $210 Non-Resident. Registration ends on November 24. Class will meet Monday, Wednesday, and Friday starting on November 27 and ending on December 8 from 4:00-9:00p. Contact Steve Trick at 415-2338 for more information.

Lifeguard pre-screen swim evaluation

Before you may enroll in Lifeguard Training, you must pass this pre-screen swim evaluation.

You must be able to do the following: Tread water for two minutes using legs only. Swim 300 yards continuously using rotary breathing and strong kick: 100 yards front crawl, 100 yards breaststroke and 100 yards of your choice (front crawl or breaststroke).Retrieve a 10-pound brick from the bottom of the pool, swim 20 yards with both hands on the brick, place brick on the deck and climb out in 1 minute 40 seconds. You must be 15 or older. The cost is $5 Resident / VRC Member; $10 Non-Resident. Prescreen can be taken on either Monday, November 13 or Monday, November 20 at 5:30pm. Swimming lessons

VPRD provides swim instruction using the American Red Cross aquatic program* taught by qualified and dedicated instructors. The focus of the program is to teach water safety and swimming skills, using a progressive approach. Week morning and evening sessions begin on Tuesday, October 10. Ages range 6 months adult. Kindergarten – first grade Instructional Basketball

Participants will practice skills and learn the rules of the game for the first 30 minutes and participate in a non-competitive recreational game for the last 30 minutes. The is $20 Resident/Member and $25 for Non-Resident. Games are held starting Saturday, January 6 through February 10 from 8:30-9:30am.

VPRD Boys Basketball INTRAMURAL Leagues (Grades 7-12)

Teams will be divided in December so you will be ready to play in January. This league is coached by a team captain in division and will only involve game play and NO practices. The fee is $35 for Resident/Member and $45 for Non-Resident. Games will be held on Sundays.
