VANDALIA — The Butler Lady Aviators completed a perfect league season by defeating Fairborn 5-0 on Tuesday to win the Greater Western Ohio Conference North Division championship.
The win lifted Butler to 14-5 overall and 10-0 in league play.
At first singles, Allison Baker defeated Fairborn’sPaige Murry 6-1, 6-2 while Xia Lin defeated McKayla Lyons 6-0, 6-1 at second singles. At third singles, Jo Velasco defeated Tiana Thomas in straight sets 6-0, 6-0.
The Aviators dominated at doubles as well and didn’t allow the Skyhawks to win a single game. At first doubles, Ashley Hess and Hannah Scarpelli defeated Amanda Wilson and Katelyn Byczkowski 6-0, 6-0 and at second doubles Jenna Albezreh and Rachel Burton defeated Rita Chien and Abby Lafferty 6-0, 6-0.
Aviators seventh in GWOC Gold Flight Tourney
Butler joined the top teams in the GWOC at Centerville on Thursday for the Gold Flight Tournament and finished seventh with 14 points.
Butler’s Xia Lin placed third in the event with a win over Catherine Raj of Miamisburg and a win over Samira Dhaliwal of Centerville in the third/fourth place match.
At second doubles, Albezreh and Burton advanced to the second round with a win over Beavercreek’s Remy Stanforth and Katie-Ann Woehl but fell to Springboro in the semifinals. The Aviators then lost to Fairmont in the third/fourth place match.
Sectional play to begin
The Lady Aviators will travel to Troy on Wednesday and Friday for sectional play at Troy High School. Play begins at 8:45 a.m. on Wednesday with semifinals and finals slated for Saturday.
