VANDALIA — The Butler boys and girls soccer teams kicked off their seasons Friday against CJ as part of the Ohio High School Athletic Association’s Friday Night Futbol.
The boys varsity team began their evening match before the girls and they had a close call while ending in a 1-1 tie with the Eagles.
“For the first match of the year, I was pleased with the effort and commitment of the boys,” said Head Coach Steve Doring.
The Aviators’ only goal was scored by Junior Spencer Imwalle half-way through the first half.
“Spencer had a great finish, while Parker Jensen and Matt Crawford worked hard the entire game to get good looks,” said Doring.
The Aviators held the Eagles scoreless for the entirety of the match, but with 15 minutes remaining in the second half, the Eagles scored.
“We were disappointed to give up a late goal. CJ did not get many clear-cut chances against us, but we had a breakdown on the far post and they scored a quality goal,” said Doring.
The Aviator Boys’ soccer team ended their opening match in a tie game, and they are back in action on Tuesday evening against Fairborn.
Following the boy’s match, the Lady Aviators took on a very strong Eagles soccer team and fell 8-0.
Clearly outmatched, the Aviators played hard until the last seconds of the game.
“It was a tough game,” said Captain Maddie Mitchell. “I am very proud of our team as a whole. We worked hard and never gave up. I’m excited for the rest of the season with my girls.”
The Lady Aviators will seek their first win on Wednesday at home against Fairborn.
