VANDALIA — Fall sports practices began around Ohio on Tuesday as the traditional start day – August 1 – rolled around. Football began practice a day earlier on Monday.
Of the OHSAA’s 822 member high schools, 719 sponsor football teams. A total of 224 will qualify for the playoffs – 32 in each of seven divisions. The regular-season ends on Saturday, Oct. 28, with final computer ratings posted Sunday, Oct. 29.
In football, a five‐day acclimatization period is mandatory prior to any contact drills. Only helmets are permitted on the first and second days of practice. Shoulder pads may be added on days three and four. Full pads may be worn on the fifth day. Full contact is permitted on the sixth day.
As such, the Butler Aviators will begin full contact at midnight Friday following the Meet the Aviator night at Good Samaritan Athletic Complex.
Butler High School will hold its fall sports Meet the Aviator night on Friday, August 4. Gates will open at 8 p.m. followed by a performance from the Butler Marching Aviators, Cheerleaders, and Butler Kickline. at 9:10, the volleyball, cross country, and football teams from Morton Middle School will be introduced. The football teams will practice until 9:50 when the high school teams will be introduced. Following the introduction of the cross country, golf, tennis, and volleball teams, the following schedule will be followed:
- 10:10 Girls Soccer Intros
- 10:15 Girls Soccer Scrimmage
- 10:30 Boys Soccer Intros
- 10:35 Boys Soccer Scrimmage
- 10:50 HS Football Intros
- 11:00 HS Football Practice
The Butler football practice will culminate at midnight when full contact can officially begin.
