Fletcher third in Region 5 heptathlon


CEDARVILLE — Butler Junior Tyree Fletcher just missed advancing to the USA Track and Field National Junior Olympic Track and Field Championships after placing third in the heptathlon in the USATF Region 5 Championships held at Cedarville University.

The top two scores in the event qualify for nationals.

Fletcher competed in the girls’ 17-18 division and scored a total of 3,553 points in the seven events.

The heptathlon consists of seven events over two days: 100 meter hurdles, high jump, javelin throw, long jump, 200 meter dash, 800 meter run, and the shot put.

Fletcher was tops in the shot put at 29 feet, 9 inches; had a time of 18.07 seconds in the 100 meter hurdles; 4-11 in the high jump; 95-05.25 in javelin; 15-11 in long jump; 29.36 seconds in the 200 meter dash; and a time of 2:48.80 in the 800 meter run.
