MILFORD – Maddie Mitchell, a junior soccer player at Butler High School, has qualified for the U17 Women’s Olympic Development Ohio South State Soccer team, commonly referred to as ODP.

Mitchell overcame tough competition in three levels of play to make it to the state team. However, as much as she has already accomplished, Mitchell continues to strive for more.

“I am working hard to try and qualify for the Regional ODP team this year,” Mitchell said. “Only 3-4 girls from the state team will be chosen.”

Mitchell is extremely dedicated to soccer and has been a lifelong competitor in the sport.

“I fell in love with soccer at a young age with the help of my first club coach, Rick Scherer,” Mitchell said.

From her starting point, Mitchell continued to expand her soccer horizons by trying out for increased difficulty teams every year. She has played for Ohio Galaxies F.C. for two years, and she credits the organization for introducing her to a faster, more complex style of play which has allowed her to take her game to the next level.

Mitchell kicks off her State Team season on June 20 in St. Louis, Missouri.
