Aviators primed for District

TROY – Butler track and field participated in the Greater Western Ohio Conference meet at Troy High School last Wednesday and Friday. Butler’s girls placed second in the American Division behind Troy while Butler’s boys placed third behind Trotwood-Madison and Troy.

Placing for the Lady Aviators were Tyree Fletcher who placed first in the long jump with a leap of 16 feet, 1.25 inches. Fletcher also placed fourth in the high jump at 4-11. Teammate Grace Swarts was sixth in the event with a jump of 4-09.

Brooklyn Warren placed second in the 110 meter hurdles in a time of 16.88 seconds. She was also third in the 300 meter hurdles in a time of 49.71 seconds while Fletcher placed fourth in 50.76 seconds.

Also placing second was Sydney Baker in the 400 meter dash in a time of 1:01.87. Alyssa Burley also placed in the event with a time of 1:05.08 which was eighth.

In the 800 meter run, Abbie Schoenherr was fourth in 2:22.21. Olivia Schoenherr placed fifth in 2:24.01.

The sisters flipped positions in the 1600 meter run with Olivia placing fifth in 5:42.52 and Abbie seventh in 5:42.87.

Anna Minier placed in two individual events. She was sixth in the 200 meter dash in 27.90 seconds and eighth in the 100 meter dash in 13.77 seconds.

Sarah Hickle placed eighth in the 3200 meter run in 12:53.98 and Hayden Edgell was eighth in the shot put with a throw of 29-10.50.

Butler placed third in the 4×100 meter relay in 51.45 seconds, third in the 4×200 meter relay in 1:50.58, third in the 4×400 meter relay in 4:12.83 and fourth in the 4×800 meter relay in 10:43.82.

For the boys, Daiton Sharp set a new Butler record and won the long jump competition with a leap of 21-05.50. Sharp was also fourth in the 400 meter dash in a time of 53.06 seconds.

Long-Fa Lin won two events. The first was the 1600 meter run in a time of 4:25.50. Teammate Kyle Wertz was also fourth in 4:49.51.

Lin also won the 3200 meter run in a time of 9:45.29 while Gabe Warren was third in 10:05.38.

Wertz also placed third in the 800 meter run in a time of 2:03.92 while Adam Gunkel was sixth in 2:06.47.

Dalton Shepler placed third in the pole vault with a leap of 13-09. Brandon Boyd also placed with a leap of 11-06 for seventh place.

In other field events, Noah Bueno placed fourth in discus with a throw of 125-07 and Charles Ellington was fifth in the shot put with a throw of 41-03.75.

Butler’s relays were fourth in the 4×800 meter relay (8:54.52), fifth in the 4×400 meter relay (3:46.96), and sixth in the 4×200 meter relay (1:36.27).

The Aviators will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Wayne High School for the District meet. Field events will begin at 4 p.m. with running events starting at 5 p.m.

Athletes advancing to finals will compete on Friday with field events starting at 5 p.m. and running events beginning at 6:30 p.m.
