VANDALIA – The Aviators stayed perfect in GWOC American Conference play last Thursday evening, with a 10-4 win over the visiting Pirates of West Carrollton.
Senior pitcher Zach Crawford (2-1) earned the win for Butler, pitching five innings, striking out four, and allowing just two earned runs. Fellow senior Gavin Kohler closed out the the final two innings, striking out three as Butler improved to 19-2,12-0 on the season.
After a scoreless first inning, West Carrollton struck first, taking advantage of a bases loaded walk to grab an early 1-0 lead.
In the bottom half of the inning, the Aviators followed suit, as junior Jack Mitchell walked, scoring junior catcher Dolen Fults from third to even the score at 1-1.
A batter later, senior Damon Dues was issued a bases loaded walk, scoring junior Logan Flatt for a 2-1 lead.
Junior Preston Tofstad blew the game wide open eight pitches later, ripping a fly to left field, to score Henry Barwick, Mitchell and Dues for a 5-1 lead.
Those five runs would be all that Butler would need.
The Aviators however would get three additional insurance runs an inning later, as Barwick sent a three run moonshot over the centerfield fence for a commanding 8-2 lead.
Offensively senior Matt Grossman added 2 RBI, Tofstad finished with a double and 2 RBI.
