Aviator bowlers sweep first matches

CINCINNATI — Butler’s girls and boys varsity bowling teams traveled to Brentwood Bowl in Cincinnati to take on the Wyoming girls and the St. Xavier boys teams. Both teams were victorious in the opening match of the season, with the Lady Aviators outscoring Wyoming 1797-933 and the boys defeating the Bombers 2666-2471.

Match medalist for the girls was Jessica Sacks, rolling a 367 (156-211) set, followed by Becca Helke with a 344 (201-143) set. Stephanie Crider rolled a 174 and Alex Kapis a 164 in the win.

For the boys, Drew Sacks was match medalist with a 456 (270-186) set, followed by Andrew Kapis with a 440 (194-246) set and Jordan Tompkins with a 366 (185-181) set.

The JV boys came up a little short, falling to St. X Boys 2127-2058. Jacob Smith was JV match medalist with a 347 (190-157) set. Other high games for the Boys JV included Will Yeary – 187, Jarred Murray – 183, Aaron Seelbaugh – 179 and Ben French – 167.

The Varsity teams return to action this Saturday when they travel to Columbus for the Ohio High School Kickoff Classic, an invitational tournament for top teams in the state of Ohio. To qualify, teams had to finish in the top of their division last year.
