DAYTON — The Butler Aviator soccer team traveled to Chaminade-Julienne for their season opener and spoiled the Eagles’ home opener with a 1-0 lightning shortened decision.
Terrance Engle scored Butler’s only goal which held up thanks to several saves by goalkeeper Eric King.
The Aviators took a 1-0 lead into half time but the game never resumed. After a lightning delay, the game was officially called around 9:45 p.m.
“Getting the season started was really good for us,” said head coach Scott Lutz. “The kids came out eager, wanting to win and wanting to play. CJ is our first game every year so they are a rival.”
Butler hosted Fairborn on Tuesday evening in a game too late for this edition. The Aviators travel to Centerville on Saturday for a 7:15 tilt at Centerville Soccer Stadium as they look to avenge a 2-0 loss the eliminated Butler from the sectional tournament a year ago when they posted a 16-2 record.
“Our expectation is to win this season just like we did last year,” said Lutz.
