VANDALIA – Balancing school work and sports is tough for any high school student. Add another sport and traveling to Columbus three days a week and you see what Butler High School junior Zoie Franklin is doing this spring.
Franklin is a member of the BHS girls’ track and field team and a highly competitive volleyball player on a Junior Olympic team out of Columbus.
“Zoie is a tremendous athlete. Her event is long jump and she is working hard to PR (personal record) this season. We are very lucky to have Zoie on the track team. She brings good leadership and a great attitude to practice and to meets,” Track and field coach Kathy Schoenherr said.
Franklin began jumping in the seventh grade, following in her brother Zenus’ footsteps. This year, she hopes to jump 16 feet and believes it’s her competitive nature that will help her achieve that goal.
“I am a hard worker. My strengths are being competitive and passionate about what I participate in,” Franklin said.
While balancing all of her activities, it’s not all work for Franklin. She says it’s her teammates who make track great.
“Making new friends and cheering everyone on.”
