VANDALIA – She started playing tennis as soon as she could hold a racquet. Now Morgan Jackson is the top singles player on the Butler High School boys’ varsity tennis team.
“My sophomore year, I was coming off an injury a few weeks before the season was to start. A few of the boys asked me to join the team. I loved the competitive atmosphere so much that I stuck with it,” Jackson said.
The team is a family affair. Coach Larry Jackson is Morgan’s dad. She credits much of her success to good coaching.
“In my opinion, players don’t win because they’re good but because they have a good coach. As hard as my dad is on me can be extremely frustrating at time, but I truly think my dad is one of the very best coaches and I have a lot of respect for him,” Jackson said.
Jackson is hoping to play tennis at the college level and possibly coach later in life, sharing her love of the sport.
“Competitive tennis is something I wish everyone could experience. It prepares you to fight through the pressure of winning and bad days. One of my favorite parts of playing competitively is being able to shock the doubters. Everyone has an opinion on how you will do and succeeding past that is one of the best feelings in the world.”
