TROY – Butler girls placed 2nd in the GWOC North with 131.5 points at the GWOC Championships Friday, May 13 at Troy Memorial Stadium.
Senior Natalie Thompson broke her own school record (set in preliminaries Wednesday, May 11) in the 100 hurdles. Thompson ran a 15.94, finishing 4th overall in the GWOC. Later, she went on to place 5th in the 300 hurdles with a time of 48.23. Butler’s Brooklyn Warren also ran in the finals of the 100 hurdles Friday night, finishing in 6th place with a time of 16.42.
Senior Corina Kreill also made the podium three times Friday. In the high jump, Kreill cleared 5 feet, placing 4th. She was a member of the 4×400 relay team that came in 4th overall in 4:08.66. Joining Kreill on that relay were Sydney Baker, Isabella Anene and Olivia Schoenherr. The girls’ 4×800 relay team of Abbie Schoenherr, Kreill, Victoria Theobald and Olivia Schoenherr also added to the girls’ night, placing 5th overall with a time of 10:02.47
Olivia Schoenherr also ran the 800m, placing 7th overall, 2nd in the GWOC North with a time of 2:25.15. Anene, along with Anna Minier, Baker and Bri Fourman, was on the 4×200 relay. That group took 8th overall in 1:50.39.
Butler’s Grace Swarts also qualified for the finals of the high jump. She cleared 4-10, placing 6th overall. In the long jamp, Zoie Franklin placed 7th, jumping 15-3.5.
On the boys’ side, senior Austin Whisman placed an impressive 4th in the 400 dash with a time of 51.57.
Following the meet results, all conference honors were announced. Several Butler girls were named to First Team or Second Team GWOC North.
First Team: Natalie Thompson in 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles, Sydney Baker, Isabella Anene, Olivia Schoenherr, Corina Kreill in 4×400 relay.
Second Team: Corina Kreill in high jump, Zoie Franklin in long jump, Brooklyn Warren in 100 hurdles, Abbie Schoenherr, Corina Kreill, Victoria Theobald, Olivia Schoenherr in 4×800 relay, Anna Minier, Sydney Baker, Nikeisha Harris, Bri Fourman in 4×100 relay, Olivia Schoenherr in 800.
