Aviator bowlers celebrate outstanding season

VANDALIA — The Butler girls and boys Bowling teams wrapped up the season with their awards banquet last week. Both teams finished second in the Greater Western Ohio Conference (GWOC) North division with identical 8-2 records.

The boys were 13-2 overall and the girls were 12-2. The girls finished sixth overall in the GWOC, the Boys were ninth.

“We had a pretty successful season,” said head coach Steve Sacks. “We look to return all but three bowlers next season.”

Across all the bowling teams, Butler had three seniors, five juniors, 15 sophomores, and nine freshman, for a total of 32 total bowlers in the program.

The girls’ second place GWOC North finish was behind eventual state champion Troy, and the boys’ second place GWOC North finish was behind state qualifier Sidney.

The boys team broke the Butler Boys team game record this season, shooting a 1218 against Northmont. Austen Brush qualified for Districts as an individual. The Boys finished first at the Westerville North Warrior Classic tournament ahead of state champion Wayne, and second at the Bellefontaine Holiday Baker Classic tournament, beating state qualifier Springfield in the semi-finals and losing to Sidney in the finals.

The Girls broke three team records this season, the team game record (1004), the team two-game record (1964) and the team match score record (2367), all in a victory against eventual state champion Troy. The girls team qualified for Districts with a sixth place finish in Sectionals, only the second girls team appearance at Districts.

The Lady Aviators won the Queen City High School Classic tournament in Cincinnati, the first varsity tournament win in Butler history. They also finished second at the Westerville North Warrior Classic tournament and finished third at the Bellefontaine Holiday Baker Classic tournament.
