VANDALIA — Butler High School administrators have narrowed their interview list for the position of athletic director. A search has been underway to find a replacement for Roger Bowen who is retiring at the end of the school year.

Principal Chad Hill said in an email that eight candidates were interviewed in late January and the list has been narrowed to three finalists. Those finalists have been given the opportunity to tour the district facilities and underwent another round of interviews before a committee on Tuesday. That committee will make a recommendation to Superintendent Brad Neavin for a final interview.

The three finalists are:

  • Nathan Kopp, a health and physical education teacher at Troy High School. Kopp has also been the varsity girls basketball coach for the Trojans since 2007 and the varsity baseball coach at Newton High School since 2014. Kopp is a graduate of Wright State University and has a Masters in Educational Leadership from the University of Dayton.
  • Jordan Shumaker, the athletic director at Graham Local Schools since 2014. Prior to that, he was a social studies teacher at Northwestern Junior and Senior High School. He also taught at Catholic Central in Springfield. He has served in multiple athletics positions including an assistant baseball coach at Wittenberg University and the Interim Athletic Director at Northwestern High School in 2014. Shumaker is a graduate of Cedarville University.
  • Jason Unger, the Assistant Principal, Director of Student Services/Athletic Director at Chaminade Julienne High School since 2006. No other information was included in the information provided by the Vandalia-Butler City Schools.
