BEAVERCREEK — The Butler girls finished sixth and the boys ninth in the Greater Western Ohio Conference Post Season Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 13 Beaver-Vu Bowl in Beavercreek.
The Lady Aviators were led by Lauren Davis’ 589 (178-223-188) series. Davis finished eighth overall and earned GWOC All-Tournament team honors. Becca Helke was next high for the Butler girls with a 570 (204-163-203) series, followed by Savannah Hoke with a 525 (190-163-172) series and Jessica Sacks with a 519 (166-169-184) series. Julia Helke added games of 207 and 182.
The girls qualified fifth and bowled last years state semi-finalist and host team Beavercreek. The Girls lost game one, then made a dramatic comeback. With anchor bowler Savannah Hoke needing two strikes and nine in the tenth frame to win the game, she threw three straight strikes for a 180-178 win.
Unfortunately for Butler, Beavercreek went on to win the next two games and the match 3-1.
The Boys were led by Drew Sacks 633 (247-203-183) series, followed by Nick Hughes 578 (190-207-181) series and Paul Sacks 566 (203-192-171) series. Jordan Tompkins added a 204 game and Austen Brush a 196 game. The boys just missed the cut, as only the top eight advance to match play.
Both the boys and girls team finished second in the GWOC North, which is calculated by a combination of GWOC Pre-season and Post-season tournament finish, as well as season GWOC North win/loss record. Troy was the overall GWOC North winner for the Girls while Sidney took the North title for the Boys.
GWOC honors were also handed out on the day. Drew Sacks earned GWOC North Boys Bowler of the year and GWOC North First team honors, finishing GWOC North match play with a 222.9 average. Brandon Warner (203.0) and Nick Hughes (195.3) earned GWOC North Second team honors. For the Girls, Julia Helke (188.7) and Savannah Hoke (188.5) earned GWOC North First team honors, while Jessica Sacks (179.9) earned GWOC North Second team honors.
Next up for the Boys (this Wednesday) and Girls (this Thursday) is the OHSAA Sectional Tournament at Poelking Lanes South. The top nine teams from this Sectional will move on to the District Tournament next week.
Aviators sweep Trotwood
Both boys and girls bowling teams came away with two victories on Friday in a double header at Trotwood. Each team also ended the season at 8-2 in the GWOC North, with the Girls finishing 12-2 (.857) overall and the Boys finishing 13-2 (.867). Both overall winning percentages were all time records for each squad.
For the girls, Jessica Sacks was match medalist in match one with a 406 (193-213) set. Alex Kapis had a 323 (172-151) set and Megan Zins added a 321 (155-166) set. In match two, Savannah Hoke was match medalist with a 375 (206-169) set followed by Becca Helke with a 352 (168-184) set. Julia Helke added a 204 game, Jordan Steinke had a 177 game and Megan Zins a 163 game.
For the boys, Brandon Warner was match medalist in match one with a 489 (267-222) set, followed by Drew Sacks’ 440 (225-215) set. Other high games included Nick Hughes 237, Austen Brush 225, Andrew Kapis 214 and Paul Sacks 206. In match two, Austen Brush was match medalist with a 416 set, followed closely by Chris Weiss’s 413 (234-179) set. Andrew Kapis added a 380 (171-209) set, with other high games from Drew Sacks 266, Noah Detrick 215 and Jordan Tompkins 191.
