TROTWOOD — On Saturday the Lady Aviators basketball team traveled to Trotwood for their final GWOC contest of the season. The Aviators came into the game off of a victory over Piqua on Wednesday. Trotwood had also won their previous contest when they defeated Greenville on Wednesday.

This GWOC contest determined sole possession of second place in the GWOC North. The game started physical and was evenly matched between both teams. Trotwood caught fire in the second quarter, and lead at half 28-20. Butler continued to struggle in the second half as the Rams flourished. Trotwood would eventually defeat Butler by a final score of 58-45. This loss dropped the Aviators into third place in the GWOC North at 6-4 and to 13-8 overall.

The Aviators opened the game fast, finding their rhythm on the offensive end, and standing up to the physicality of the Rams. Trotwood outscored Butler in the opening quarter, following a late surge in the final seconds. Despite trailing at the end of the first quarter, Butler was still in prime position to grab a victory. Senior Riley Clark added a big three point basket for the Aviators in the opening quarter. Heading into the second, Butler would trail by a score of 11-10.

Trotwood caught fire in the second quarter, as they wore down the Aviators on both ends of the floor. The Aviators were outscored 17-10 in the second, stretching the Ram lead to eight. Junior Keonni Rakestraw added four points for Butler in the second. The Aviators trailed Trotwood heading into halftime by a score of 28-20.

The Aviators continued to struggle in the second half, as they let the Rams extend their lead. In the third quarter the Trotwood lead would stretch to 22, before the Aviators began to make some headway. Butler scored 10 points in the third, while the Rams added 20 points. Senior Shelby Moses scored six points in the third, as Butler tried to get back in the game. Heading into the final quarter, the Lady Aviators would trail by 18, 48-30.

In the final quarter, Butler began to have some success against the Lady Rams. Butler outscored Trotwood 15 to 10 in the final quarter, yet it wasn’t enough to grab the lead. Junior Olivia Schoenherr added four points in the final quarter in the Aviators rally. Despite having success in the fourth, Butler couldn’t climb back against the deficit Trotwood had created. Butler would eventually fall by 13 points, with a final score of 58-45. This loss dropped the Aviators into third place in the GWOC North division, as Trotwood moved to second place.

Leading scorers for the Aviators were Shelby Moses with 16, followed by Olivia Schoenherr with six and Brittney Petrosky with five.

The Junior Varsity team defeated Trotwood 39-19.
