TROTWOOD – With three championship swims and two relays coming in a close second, it was a great night for Butler boys’ swimming at the GWOC Championships Thursday, Feb. 4 at Trotwood Madison.
Senior Tommy Cope won the 100 breaststroke in a time of :56.16. Cope also won the 200 IM, blowing away the competition with a 1:50.60, more than six seconds ahead of the second place swimmer.
Sophomore Colin Wolfe also made it to the top of the podium, winning the 100 freestyle in :48.60.
Cope and Wolfe were also on the 200 freestyle medley team, with Brendan Shanahan and Ian Barrett, which placed second, just off the pace of the winning Centerville team. In the 400 freestyle relay, it was Daveed Abrams, Sean Luttrell, Ryan Conley and Cope placing second with a time of 3:21.36, this time just .72 seconds off the winning Springboro team. The boys’ 200 medley team of Shanahan, Wolfe, Abrams, Barrett placed fifth with a time of 1:46.73.
Other Butler boys making it to finals: Barrett 200 freestyle 11th 1:59.93, Abrams 200 freestyle 16th 2:06.58 and 100 butterfly 13th :58.88, Cameron Harsch 500 freestyle 10th 5:44.09, Shanahan 100 backstroke 16th 1:04.17 and 100 butterfly 15th 1:02.61 and Luttrell 100 breaststroke 13th 1:08.27.
Boys’ sectionals will be February 12 at Trotwood-Madison, followed by districts at Miami University Feb. 20.
