Aviators sweep GWOC North

TROTWOOD – The Butler boys and girls swimming teams swept the Greater Western Ohio Conference (GWOC) North division championships on Saturday at Trotwood High School.

For the 12th straight year, the Butler boys’ swim team has captured a conference title. The girls are making a mark on the record books also, winning the GWOC North for the fifth straight year.

Next up is the GWOC finals Thursday, Feb. 4. Several Aviators will be looking to make the podium.

Senior Tommy Cope qualified first in the 100 breaststroke in :57.36 and the 200 IM in 1:54.52. Sophomore Colin Wolfe also goes into finals qualifying first. Wolfe had the fastest time overall in the 100 freestyle with a :49.07.

Other boys qualifying for Thursday’s finals: Ian Barrett 200 freestyle 1:58.46, Daveed Abrams 200 freestyle 2:03.66, 100 butterfly :58.32, Cameron Harsch 500 freestyle 5:43.28, Brendan Shanahan 100 backstroke 1:00.50, 100 butterfly 1:00.14, Sean Luttrell 100 breaststroke 1:11.47, alternate 50 freestyle :25.19, Ryan Conley alternate 100 freestyle :55.46.

All three of the boys’ relay teams, 200 freestyle, 400 freestyle and 200 medley, also qualified for finals.

On the girls’ side, eight Aviators are advancing to the finals. Freshman Abbey Burton qualified for the 50 freestyle with the third fastest time overall, :25.83. Burton is also on the qualifying 200 freestyle relay and 200 medley relay teams.

Others girls qualifying for Thursday’s finals. Sydney Baker 50 freestyle :26.50, 100 breaststroke 1:13.80, Elaine Dean 100 freestyle :56.33, 100 backstroke 1:03.98, Rachel Shively 100 freestyle 1:00.89, Reilly Harrington 200 freestyle 2:14.27, alternate 500 freestyle 6:14.61, Erin Dean 200 freestyle 2:24.35, Molly Hetzer 100 backstroke 1:09.75, Grace Cope 100 butterfly 1:06.78, 200 IM 2:28.72.
