VANDALIA — On Saturday, the Lady Aviators hosted Sidney for a GWOC North Division showdown. Butler came into the game off of a gut wrenching loss to Trotwood on Wednesday night while the Yellow Jackets came into the game undefeated after defeating Greenville on Wednesday evening.

Sidney fought back though, and took the lead at halftime. The halftime score was 26-25, with the Yellow Jackets in front. Sidney stretched their lead in the third quarter, and led by 12 at the end of the third. Butler fought back in the final quarter, but couldn’t make much headway. The Aviators would finally fall to Sidney, with a final score of 50-40.

Butler started the game hot in the opening quarter. The Aviators played physical on the defensive end, while finding ways to score on the offensive end. Butler outscored Sidney 13-10 in the opening quarter, which gave them some early cushion heading into the second quarter. Leading the way for the Aviators was Junior Olivia Schoenherr, who added two important baskets. Butler led by three points as they headed into the second quarter.

Sidney fought back in the second, as they quickly eliminated the Aviators lead. Sidney outscored Butler 16-12 in the second quarter. Butler struggled to slow down the power of Sidney in the second quarter. Despite a difficult second for the Aviators, they only trailed by one point at halftime. Butler was led in the second by Senior Shelby Moses who added a big three point basket as time expired.

Butler came out flat in the second half, and allowed Sidney to run their offense and control the pace of the game. The Aviators were outscored 14-3 in the third quarter, which stretched the Yellow Jacket lead to 12. With one quarter remaining, Butler trailed by a score of 28-40.

Butler fought hard in the final quarter, as they tried to chip away at the double digit deficit. The Lady Aviators couldn’t make much headway as they only trimmed their margin to 10 points. Butler outscored Sidney 12-10 in the final quarter of play. Junior Brittney Petrosky added six points in the final quarter. Despite putting up a great fight, Butler finally fell to Sidney by a final score of 50 to 40. This loss moved the Aviators to 3-3 in the Division, and 10-7 overall on the season.

Leading scorers for the Aviators were Brittney Petrosky with 17, followed by Shelby Moses with 11 and Olivia Schoenherr with seven.

The Butler JV team defeated Sidney by a score of 40-28.
