VANDALIA — Butler senior football player Vinnie Fiori was the recipient of this football season’s Blake LaForce TUFF Award as selected by his teammates.

“Vinnie is a genuine over-achiever and people person who embodies the characteristics Blake LaForce had and stood for,” said Mark LaForce, Blake’s father and presenter of the award.

Fiori received a trophy during the football awards banquet as well as a leather weight lifting belt engraved with “Blake LaForce #41 Tuff.” An engraved plaque is also permanently on display at the Butler Student Activities Center.

Blake LaForce was a graduate of Butler High School and a member of the Aviator football team. He died in 2009 at the age of 18 due to complications from an unexpected central nervous system infection after being cured of acute lymphoblastic leukemia by a bone marrow transplant.
