VANDALIA — On Saturday the Lady Aviators Basketball team hosted Fairborn in a Greater Western Ohio Conference crossover showdown. The Lady Skyhawks upset Butler a year ago, intensifying the matchup between teams. Fairborn came into the game off a loss to Wayne and an overall record of 1-3. The Aviators had also lost their previous game against Centerville, dropping them to an overall record of two and three.
Butler jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, polishing off Fairborn by 32 points, 52-20 to even their season record at 3-3.
The Aviators opened the game with vengeance on both ends of the floor. Butler limited inside scoring opportunities for the Skyhawks, and caught fire offensively. The Aviators gave up only two baskets in the first quarter as they jumped to an early seven point lead. Junior guard Brittney Petrosky added six points from the floor for the Aviators in the opening quarter. Senior Riley Clark also added four points, giving Butler a 12-5 lead heading into the second.
Success continued in the second for the Aviators, wearing down Fairborn on both offense and defense. Butler would add 13 in the second quarter to the Skyhawks’ four. Shelby Moses caught fire for the Aviators in the second, adding six points, including a three pointer. Abby Grooms also added points from the foul line for Butler. Heading into the half, Butler led Fairborn 25-9.
The second half was much of the same for the Aviators, continuing to dominate on both ends of the floor and well on their way to a home victory. Butler scored 27 points in the second half, including five from Brianna Fourman and Olivia Schoenherr. Butler held Fairborn to only 11 points in the second half as they cruised to a 52-20 victory. This victory brought the Aviators overall record to three and three, heading into divisional play.
Leading scorers for the Aviators were Shelby Moses with 15, followed by Brittney Petrosky with 12 and Olivia Schoenherr with 8. The Aviators will be back in action on Wednesday as they take on Miamisburg. JV tip time is 6 p.m and varsity is to follow.
The Lady Aviators also traveled to Centerville last Wednesday to play the Lady Elks. Butler was defeated by a score of 54-29. Leading Scorer for that game was Brittney Petrosky with 13 points.
