CENTERVILLE —Emma Bryant set a school record for the Lady Aviators on Saturday at the Greater Western Ohio Conference cross country meet at Centerville High School.
The Lady Aviators placed second overall with 57 points. Troy won the meet with 19 points, Butler was second, Greenville was fourth with 63 points followed by Piqua with 106 points.
Bryant’s time of 18:25 set a new Butler school record and placed second in the division. Olivia Schoenherr was seventh in 19:59 followed by Abbie Schoenherr (11th, 20:39), Sarah Hickle (18th, 22:12), Shelby Moses (19th, 22:47), Nicole Weiss (24th, 24:06), and Michelle Valdivia (26th, 24:06).
Bryant and Olivia Schoenherr were named to All-Conference First Team and Abbie Schoenherr was named to the Al-Conference Second Team.
“The girls really improved today,” said head coach Andy White. “We have been racing less and training more the last couple of weeks and I could tell we were getting stronger. Olivia and Abbie had great races and huge PR’s (personal records). Sarah Hickle continues to improve and having a healthy ShelbyMoses has been helpful. Emma set a cross country school record which she has been chasing the last couple of years. If we run like we did today and keep improving we could be a surprise team at next weeks districts.”
The cross country teams will compete at districts next Saturday at the Miami Valley Career Technology Center in Englewood. The Lady Aviators will run at 1 p.m. and the boys will run at 1:45 p.m.
The top eight teams and individuals in the top 32 will earn a berth at the regional meet.
