VANDALIA – The Butler Aviators wasted no time in taking the lead during Friday’s homecoming game versus Sidney and never looked back en route to a 29-0 win.

With the victory, Butler improved to 5-2 overall and remained unbeaten in the Greater Western Ohio Conference (GWOC) North division at 2-0. Sidney fell to 4-3 overall and 0-2 in the GWOC North.

Coupled with a loss by Trotwood-Madison to Troy, the Aviators now sit atop the division with four teams – Trotwood, Piqua, Greenville, and Troy.

The Aviators took advantage of good field position to score just over a minute into the game. Quarterback Chandler Craine connected with Treylann Sanders for a 26-yard touchdown pass with 10:52 left in the first quarter. Mark Verdes found John Anderson in the end zone for the two point conversion and Butler led 8-0.

The Aviators went up 14-0 on a 1-yard run by Nic Martin that capped off a four play, 43 yard drive.

Butler’s defense added points in the second period as the Aviators forced a safety for 16-0 lead.

Martin added a touchdown late in the second quarter from three yards out following a 12-play, 52 yard drive to give the Aviators a 22-0 lead at half.

Martin completed the hat trick with his third touchdown with 3:37 left in the game as he ran in from seven yards out. Anthony Rigalli connected on the extra point to set the final score.

Butler had 285 yards of total offense compared to 233 for the Yellow Jackets. The Aviators gained 165 through the air and 120 on the ground.

Craine completed 16 of 27 passes for 165 yards with an interception. Noah Ballard led Butler with five catches for 60 yards followed by Sanders with one catch for 26 yards. Aaron Fields, Dawson Vandervort, Logan Flatt, Tyler Burley, and Dustin Lewis caught passes for the Aviators.

Logan Flatt was the leading Aviator rusher with 67 yards on 16 carries. Martin had 53 yards on 19 carries with three touchdowns.

Defensively, Vinnie Fiori led with seven tackles and Ballard had six. Ballard also had an interception with a 53 yard return. Marcus Simones also had an interception.

Butler will host Greenville (3-4, 1-1) Friday night at 7 p.m.
