VANDALIA — As the Butler High School boys’ varsity soccer team heads into post season, senior captain Zach Burgmeier takes with him 13 years of experience and a competitive spirit.
“Zach is the heartbeat of the team. He is the most well rounded player I have had the opportunity to coach. He has excellent technique, great vision, a high soccer IQ, can score and create goals, is equally committed to defending as he is to attack and, finally, is extremely competitive,” Coach Steve Doring said.
Burgmeier says he sees himself as a “play maker.”
“I look to support my teammates by analyzing my opponents and exploiting their weaknesses. I work tirelessly on the field and give 100% for 80 minutes,” Burgmeier said
Doring says it is “the intangibles he possesses that make him a great teammate.”
“He brings the same intensity to training as he does in games. He has high expectations and ensures other members of the team increase their standard of play,” Doring said.
Burgmeier hopes that intensity will lead him to the next level of soccer. He is hopes to continue his career at the University of South Carolina, Wright State University or George Mason University. He plans to earn an Engineering degree.
