TIFFIN — The Butler boys and girls cross country teams traveled to Tiffin for the Tiffin Cross Country Carnival. The Lady Aviators placed 21st out of 42 teams in the Division 1B varsity race while the boys placed 12th out of 43 teams.
Emma Bryant placed first overall with a time of 19:07 and was followed by Olivia Schoenherr (32nd, 21:03), Abbie Schoenherr (114th, 22:20), Sarah Hickle (211th, 24:01), Nicole Weiss (247th, 25:22), Michell Valdivia (248th, 25:56), and Sydney Baker (251st, 25:58).
“We defiantly saw some improvements with the girls team,” said head coach Andy White. “It helps we had Emma running her first race of the season. She ran comfortable and under control. It was nice to see her get the victory. We had some huge personal best times from Abbie and Michell. We ran well”
The boys team was led by Kyle Wertz (38th, 17:35), Long-fa Lin (41st, 17:40), Caleb Colon (44th, 17:42), Gabe Warren (86th, 18:20), Sean Luttrell (141st, 18:59), Mitchell Heeter (210th, 20:03), and Nick Luttrell (228th, 20:24).
“Our top three boys did a good job of running together,” said White. “We need to get a little more aggressive in beginning of the race. We had improvements with our fourth and fifth runners but we have to get them closer to our top three. We are improving so that is what counts.”
