Butler Aquatics Club to hold information meeting
VANDALIA – The Butler Aquatics Club (BAC) is having an informational meeting for all parents at the Vandalia Senior Center on Thursday, August 27 from 7:15 – 8:30 p.m. Coaches and BAC board members will be on hand to explain the program and review the different levels offered by the swim club, as well as the team policies and practice schedules. The program will accommodate all levels of athletes from the most basic to the most advanced. All practices are held at the Vandalia Recreation Center and the team is an officially sanctioned member of USA Swimming. It is very critical to attend this meeting. NFL Punt, Pass, and Kick competition is Friday
VANDALIA — The Vandalia Parks and Recreation Department will host the annual NFL Punt, Pass, and Kick competition on Friday, August 28 from 5 – 7 p.m. at Butler Memorial Stadium. The competition will be held prior to the Aviators’ first home football game.
The NFL Punt, Pass, and Kick is free and open to boys and girls ages 6-15. Girls and boys in five separate age divisions (6-7, 8-9, 10-11, 12-13, and 14-15) compete against each other in punting, passing and place kicking in a fun and engaging forum.
The program is a national skills competition for boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 15 to compete separately against their peers. Established in 1961, the PPK program is the oldest NFL Youth Football program.

Girls 12U fastpitch team forming
VANDALIA — A new local team is looking for players for USSSA and ASA 12U girls fastpitch softball. The team is open to all surrounding communities and this will be a fee-free team to parents. If interested contact Kyle at 937-287-8555 or email email@example.com. Tryouts will be at the Vandalia Rec Center at 1111 Stonquarry Rd. on Aug 19 and 26 with rain out dates the following day. Players should bring all equipment and plenty of water. Please contact Kyle if you need a tryout if you can’t make the days provided.
Troy Post 43 to hold baseball tryouts
TROY — Troy Post 43 Baseball and its younger teams are holding tryouts for candidates 15 to 18 year olds for 2016. The tryouts will be held at the Duke Park “Legion Field” on the following dates: Saturday, August 22 and Sunday, August 23 at 1 p.m. Troy Post 43 Baseball is one of Ohio’s most respected baseball programs and participated in both American legion Baseball and the National Amateur Baseball Federation. The team travels to some of the best tournaments in the country. Over 400 former players have advanced on to play college baseball, with 44 having signed pro contracts and two becoming major leaguers. Five former players are currently coaching in college. The team is coached by Frosty Brown.
Trot for the Brats set for September 12
VANDALIA — The Vandalia-Butler Optimist Club will host its annual Trot for the Brats 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, September 12 in coordination with the Vandalia Sister Cities Oktboberfest. Participants will receive free admission to the Oktoberfest as well as a coupon for a free bratwurst. Registration info can be found at http://www.trotforthebrats5k.org.
The 5K Run/Walk is sponsored by the Vandalia-Butler Optimist Club and the proceeds from this event will directly benefit the youth of the Vandalia City & Butler Township community. For 40 years, the Vandalia-Butler Optimist Club has focused their time, money, energy and resources into the kids of our community and proudly embrace our slogan, “Friend of Youth.”
Our professionally certified 5K (3.1 mile) course is very flat and should offer most avid runners a great opportunity to push for their best 5K time. Professional electronic chip timing for all participants as well as mile splits will be provided during the event. Walkers (and dogs!) and families are welcome! This is a race and a family event all in one package.
